Improv class

 The Baltimore Modern Quilt Guild is going to teach an improv class on August 25 at Seminole Sampler.   We were inspired by Faith at Fresh Lemons (although we switched it up a bit).

 We picked out a supply pack of eight rainbow fabrics, available at the store.

  I got together with a few of the other members to sew up a little sample.  It was fun and I think we got one person to sign up already!  (woohoo!)  We all sewed up a few extra blocks for a quilt for ourselves, too.  The store owner was one of the sewists and she volunteered to quilt and bind the little sample.  I am thinking I will use mine for a baby quilt.

This little quilt went to my big sis.  She likes pink and I thought she would enjoy the flowers and birds and butterflies.  I won most of this fabric in a giveaway last fall from Amber at One Shabby Chick (thanks again, Amber!)

Another Quilt for Another Sister

As promised, here is another of the late sister presents that I made this spring.  I used one of my squares from an Echo layer cake.  I made a square in a square, an easy and fun pattern.  Aren't the colors lovely together?

 I followed my own trend of creating another quilt for the backing.  This time it was a improv log cabin, using some of the fabrics from the front.

Quilt back

 I practiced my free motion on the different areas of the quilt.  Some wavy lines, some leaves, some curves, some straight lines.  Lots of fun!

This quilt went to my youngest sister.  I will get to see all three of my sisters in California next month.  Can't wait!

Kinder quilt back

I wanted to show you the back of the Kindergarten quilt.  The bottom two thirds is made up of drawings from each child.  I let them draw whatever they wanted to.  The pictures include rainbows, houses, trucks, trees, suns, fish, and stars.  Some of the kids spent a long time drawing their pictures and some of them spent less than a few minutes.  Some drew several small pictures and some made more elaborate pictures.

The top part was a more directed exercise: they had to make a bug or critter from the book In the Tall, Tall Grass.  I wrote the label up here, too.  I also had all the other teachers on my team sign the quilt for my friend and assistant, Jen.  We are hoping she gets her own classroom next year at our school and she can hang the quilt up in her new room!
