iPhone zippies!

Before I took off for Oregon, I decided I needed a new zip case for my iPhone, credit card, and money. I was thinking I might not want to carry my big purse all over. I went looking and saw some nice ones at the mall but for way more than I was willing to pay. So I went home and whipped up a little zippie. I used my fav Malka fabric and I had fun tracing over some of her "stitching."

It was fast and easy to put together.

I liked it do much, I decided to make three more to take to my sisters.

Needless to say, it took me much longer to make the next three!

But I got them done, slept for a few hours, and took them to Oregon.

Sisters Quilt Show

Wow! We walked all over the town of Sisters, Oregon yesterday. It was a gorgeous day with a late day thunderstorm that sent the volunteers scurrying to take down the1500 quilts hanging on the sides of the buildings!

My sister, Maureen is not a quilter but she is a good sport and trekked all over the town with me. She makes jewelry and spent a part of the day twisting wire around gemstones while I shopped.

I was determined to find the Portland Modern Quilt Guild exhibit and there they were, tucked in between two buildings. Their spot was a great concentration of modern quilts but there were other modern quilts mixed in around the town.

The quilt teachers' tent was where we ended up when the downpour started. Great quilts were on display! I took a few pictures.

Round robin quilt

In June I received this beautiful quilt top as my finished round robin quilt. I am trying to decide the best way to quilt it. I have been practicing a few new patterns for fmq.

Journal Cover and Row Robin Completed!

Today was our July meeting of the Baltimore Modern Quilt Guild.  I finished up two sewing projects earlier this week to bring along.  We exchanged journal covers (and the journals, actually! Just composition books.)  This is the one I made.

Back of Journal

I used some gray strips with my current favorite fabric, Stitched in Color.  I made a little button for the front and searched high and low to find the hair band (my girls use them but they are all grown up and live in their own houses!).  I quilted mine but I noticed not everybody did.  I kind of made up the FMQ as I went along (sort of a maze of straight lines).
Here's the front of the journal with the cute covered button.

The other thing I made for the meeting was the first row of our row robin quilt.  We exchanged them and someone else took mine home to add another row to it.  Each row has different rules (the next row needs to include triangles).  I am hoping to get a little neighborhood  :)

A house, some trees, stars, and some roses!

I put it up on my design wall to take some pictures but of course I didn't want to take down the strip quilt-I am almost ready to start sewing the blocks to each other.  Five more blocks to go.  It definitely brightens up my sewing room!

Of course I brought home a beautiful journal cover made by Diane.  And someone else's row to add a row to by the August meeting.

If you are in the Baltimore area, please feel free to join us!  We are a fun and varied group!  Some people in our group have been quilting for over 50 years and some for six months.  Here is a link to the BMQG blog.
